Delle Törzs

Janie is one of the oldest 6th grade students I know. She has a way of bringing out the child in all of us. Her riding history includes ranch work, 3 day eventing and many things between. She joined us by simply saying "if we ever needed another rider just call." We called, she rode, and managed a few targets on her first day with us. This kind of self confidence and trust in a horse is hard to find.

Janie Vogt: Kezdõ-Íjász-Lovas

Why do I do Horseback Archery? To begin with I wanted to do something with my horse that allowed me to regain that incredible feeling and connection I had with the horses I used to ride on our ranch. The kind who would get me home after dark, over a steep trail, or through a treacherous river crossing because of their honesty, tenacity, and heart. I wanted to remember the trust, the connection, the comfortable belief that this amaing animal would take care of me and deliver me safely home because I trust him. Often that feeling is lost when we become recreational riders in predictable situations, when the adventure is gone from the ride. Each time I drop the reins, knowing my horse will deliver me safely to the end of the track, while I am shooting arrows from above his head that incredible feeling returns and I truly savor the moment. Later when I care for him, it is not a chore but the joyful opportunity to honor him and say thank you for his loyalty and purity.

Once involved, I realized I wanted even more. I wanted the connection with the past that practicing an ancient art gives us. I wanted a connection with people that shared my work ethic and excitement for a new accomplishment. I wanted to feel the whole of us being so much more than any one of us alone. I wanted to be something Than I was before, to do something that not everyone can do and be part of the group of horsearchers I have come to call family. I wanted to practice the discipline it takes to improve, the discipline it takes to succeed. I wanted the chance to let the world know that you are only as old as you allow yourself to be and that knew mountains to climb keep you young. Most of all I wanted to take part, just that, to take part in something extraordinary, and to someday claim the title "Horseback Archer."
